We Are Back!
Mile 542
We have been out of touch because of lack of reception. We did 19 miles yesterday just so we could order a pizza, and eat it at a shelter. Only on the AT will a person use ordering a pizza as motivation to blaze 19 miles by 4 pm lol
A few weeks ago I had a vision of hotdogs dancing in my head much like sugar plums while blazing 18 miles and the next day I actually found myself attempting to walk 3 miles out of the way to grab hotdogs and then hike 17 more so Leif and I could cook them over a fire, luckily I was picked up by a passer by who drove myself, and phoenix( a trail buddy of ours) to the store and back after only a mile! Nice guy!
So While I watch a fly swirl around the room after a short day and some rest at a sketchy hotel in Atkins, Va a few things a occurred to me over our standard 6 pack of beer.
I am blessed that I have never been involved with drugs; period!
I have seen what it has done to some close to me as well as those who are complete strangers and it is just sad I just can't describe it smh.
On a lighter note, being on the back country for days, weeks, months makes you truly appreciate family and friends and what they will do for you when you need it the most. My cousin Erine and her husband Omar opened their home to Leif and I over the Holliday and we can't describe how good it made us feel and how much I personally appreciated it. We needed the time off and we had a blast. My brother Tony and sister Amber came down and it's always a good time when they are around. Especially when Tony is on the grill.
So it's back to work, we will check back soon.
